Using Diversity in Teams Effectively Most organizations use teams to work on some of their more difficult problems. The use of teams is directed to use the diverse talents available in the room to enable the team to generate the most innovative solutions. However getting people together presents another challenge - how do you manage people with differing thinking styles? Thinking style refers to the way people think - some people are more comfortable moving in gradual steps within the paradigm and only after exhausting the known possibilities within will move outside. For others, their thinking is more aligned to consider the paradigm as the problem and their thinking style takes more giant steps randomly within and outside the paradigm. Research shows that differing styles in people can cause communication problems and make the team ineffective. The very purpose of getting teams together is to use the diversity and should the team not work to its potential it will become counter-productive. We at BMGI help organizations bridge this gap by working to assess individual's thinking style and work with organization to create teams that are capable to work effectively and efficiently. Using the KAI - Kirton Adaptive Innovation Inventory, we assess each individual's thinking style and provide feedback to them to enable them to understand themselves and the team better. We work with the management team to ensure that the right skills are on the team and the team has the capability to manage its diversity. The course largely focuses on KAI – the Kirton Adaption-Innovation Method – and offers a feedback on participants STYLE of problem solving too. This program focuses on how to improve team work and increase communication in team members to effectively manage the process for innovation. This program is a great tool to learn and understand the differences in individual problem solving style and effectively managing conflicts, bridging the gap of team members, and increase collaboration among team members.
