ISO 9000: A series of Quality Standards or Models that outline the requirements of Quality Management Systems. The ISO 9001:2000, which is the assessment standard, consist of guidelines that need to be complied with for an organization to get certified. When an organization is getting certified it implies that the systems in the organization are getting certified. ISO 9000 standard is applicable across the industry and accepted worldwide.
Family of ISO 9000 Standard
In the family of the ISO 9000 standards the assessment standard is only ISO 9001:2000. The ISO 9002 and ISO 9003 standards (1994 version) have been merged with the ISO 9001. The others such as ISO 9004 are guidelines and are not for assessing the organization for certification.
The requirements of the ISO 9001:2000 standard are better aligned with the philosophy and objectives of most quality award programs such as CII-Exim Award for Business Excellence, IMC Ramakrishna Bajaj Award.
